Home schooling Helps

I thought I'd try and perhaps post some helps, for home schoolers, even if they may seem to be common knowledge..  I figured, it can't hurt, to do what I can, in this way, just in case, someone finds something they can use.  As we can all use a little help.  I think I'll begin with posting some links for sites that have been invaluable to our family, for schooling.

Links

 http://www.starfall.com/
This is a wonderful site for pre-readers

http://www.superkids.com/
This is such a useful site, when I need to have worksheets for my boys to complete, I can create my own worksheets, which is great..

I love this site.  I don't use it exclusively, I use it as an extra thing the boys can do for fun.  You can manage what they do real easily, and it's school, disguised as fun, hee hee hee.  You can select how they work, with or without worksheets.  It's a real useful tool.

This is a great help for studying geography!

http://www.khanacademy.org/

This site is great for helping my entire family understand math.

I can't believe how wonderful this site is.  I do not know who is behind it, but, it is filled with wonderful Catholic stories, coloring pages and is very well put together.  As far as I've been able to see, everything is Catholic, and there is nothing unsafe or heretical or erroneous on this site, but, caution is always good, at any site, you visit.

Tips and Ideas for schooling

I thought I'd put forth some ideas I've come by that have helped me in schooling my children, that perhaps someone might be able to use.

We use the library for a lot of our sources, although, we are very cautious about what we bring home, as not all books are safe, theologically, or in other ways.  Throughout the years, it has been back breaking to carry all of the books to and from the library, even through the library itself, as my boys love, love, love, reading.  So, finally, It dawned on me that I need something that rolls, to carry my books in, and voila, I started using my suitcase that you can pull and roll!!!  It is great!  I know, someone has already figured this out, but, it took me years.  And, all I can say is, the library is no longer a laborious task.

I would also like to pass on the ability to renew books online and to put books on hold online.  This is invaluable, and I renew, right when I get my books home, and right before I bring them back, because, I always forget one or two, and it lengthens the time we have the books, making it less of a chance that I'll be paying fines on my books, which I can't afford.
